A Critical Part of Your Entec Refurbishment…
Entec Subwoofer Service
Repair, Refurbishment, and Overhaul of Entec SW and LF Series Subwoofers.
When you send your Entec subwoofer components to JRS it is
extremely important that you also send your Crossover Module and
the interconnect cables connecting the Module to each subwoofer.
Most of the time, and by that we mean better than 90%, there is an
issue with one or more of these parts. Getting a freshly rebuilt
Entec subwoofer back only to find out the other parts feeding it are
defective is frustrating to say the least and a waste of your time. That’s why the
refurbishment price includes inspection and cleaning of the Crossover Module switches and XLR interconnects.
And by “cleaning” of the switches we mean disassembly, physical cleaning and polishing of the contacts, not just
spraying some contact cleaner into the switch and calling it “cleaned”. Obviously, repairs over and above the
inspection and cleaning are at extra cost and will be quoted before repairs are made.
Modifications:
When you send your Crossover Module we ask that you also tell us the make & model of your preamp, power amp,
and speakers. With this information we can make sure that the crossover selection you’re using is truly the right one
for your system and is proper for the fixed crossover point of 100Hz (Generation 1 equipped SW and LF series) or
the crossover selection made internally in each Generation 2 equipped sub (60Hz, 100Hz, or 180Hz).
JRS can, at owner’s request, match the high pass Crossover Module to the individual model of power amplifier
being used to drive the main speakers. Knowing the preamplifier type and speakers being used also allows for the
proper capacitor type recommendation. This gives a more tailored high-pass frequency cutoff performance over the
factory installed, approximated selections (calculated at 100Hz) provided via the five or six position High Pass
Crossover selection switch. Some owner’s opt to completely bypass the selector switch and hard-wire their
crossover frequency cutoff choice (usually at 60Hz, 80Hz, or 100Hz) while others keep using the switch but custom
choose a variety of cutoff points matched with their power amp to allow them to select at will. There are a lot of
options and thus far no two Crossover Modules that have come through have been the same.
Below are some before and after pictures of one modified Crossover Module driving Audio Research amps:

Interconnects:
As mentioned above it is recommended that the 4 pin XLR interconnect cables be sent with your units. Problems
have been seen from loose shield connections causing crackling noise in the customer’s system to non-factory
repairs that were done incorrectly causing dual sub systems to run completely out of phase and opposite of the
channel selected on the subwoofer panel. JRS inspects and cleans these interconnects as part of the
refurbishment service.
Some owners have opted to replace the factory supplied interconnects with aftermarket high-end cables. We think
this can be a great idea. Simply contact the cable manufacturer and ask for standard 4 pin XLR interconnects of
your choice in length. Note that while Kimber Kable can be an excellent choice, issues with hum have been
experienced by some due to grounding issues.
Pinouts are as follows: Pin 1 = Left Low, Pin 2 = Left High, Pin 3 = Right Low, Pin 4 = Right High.
